Travel & Arrival Information
Before you come to Ireland
Please ensure that you have your accommodation and school details with you, including the school's emergency number. If you are staying with a host family, please call them to have a quick chat to introduce yourself and let them know of your estimated time of arrival in Galway.
Visa
Students from the EEA (European Economic Area which includes Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Iceland), do not need a visa to enter Ireland. Students from outside the EEA should check on www.justice.ie to see whether a visa is required. All non-EEA students need to bring the original letter of offer from the school and accommodation details. Airport Immigration will request this information on your arrival in Ireland. You usually have one month to register with the local immigration office in Galway after your arrival and you will need supporting documentation including a current bank account, school letters with proof of your choice of course and accommodation, and sufficient funds to remain in Ireland.
Arrival in Ireland & Transfer
We can organize your taxi transfer from the airport of your choice. If you arrive in Shannon or Dublin airport, you can choose to come to Galway by City Link bus service www.citylink.ie or by Bus Eireann — www.buseireann.ie. You can also choose to fly from Dublin to Galway www.aerarann.com or you can take the train www.irishrail.ie. We can organize a Meet and Greet service in Dublin airport and someone will meet you and bring you to the bus or train of your choice.
Galway Bus Services
Galway has two bus services — City Direct www.citydirect.ie Bus Eireann www.buseireann.ie Information is available from the school or your host family as to which service is most suitable. There are monthly bus tickets available for Bus Eireann. Bicycle hire is also a very economical option for students especially those on long stay courses. A substantial discount is available with a GCI student ID card.
