A Diverse and Inclusive Programme
Theatre & Performance
GIAF presents a spectacular range of theatre, from intimate storytelling to large-scale productions. For English learners, attending performances—especially those featuring physical theatre or Irish folklore—offers an engaging way to experience language in context, helping to build listening skills and cultural understanding.
Music
The music programme spans everything from classical to indie rock. The Heineken® Big Top hosts major headline acts, and many events take place in relaxed, welcoming venues throughout the city. Even without perfect English, the universal language of music helps all audiences feel included and connected.
Visual Arts
Art exhibitions are held in galleries and public spaces across Galway, many of which are free to attend. These experiences offer English learners a unique way to engage with stories and ideas visually—often with multilingual guides or written descriptions available.
Street Spectacle
One of the most joyful aspects of the festival is the street performances. From whimsical parades to large-scale outdoor art, these events are accessible to all—no matter your language level—and create shared cultural moments in the heart of the city.
Talks & Literature
The First Thought Talks series is a chance to hear from thinkers and artists discussing global topics like AI, climate change, and Irish history. These talks are ideal for more advanced English learners looking to challenge themselves in a real-world academic setting.
