Useful Information Before Arrival
Planning your language stay in Ireland is an exciting time & a list is a great way to be sure you remember the most important things!
Here's a few things we think are particularly important to remember:
- Book your language programme at GCI (with course and/or accommodation) & carry with you any relevant documentation sent to you from GCI
- Take your GCI Online English Test ( you will receive a unique link to our online English test once your booking is confirmed)
- Book Flights to & from Ireland
- Check Passport & ID card
- Visa (if applicable)
- Health insurance/health card
- Consider how you will be Getting to Galway
E-learning platfom Moodle
You will also have access to our e-learning platform, Moodle. On this student platform, you can find lots of Information about the school:
- our policies relating to student conduct, holidays and attendance;
- school quality standards and giving feedback or reporting problems;
- the process for changing your level;
- and international exams that are available at our school.
There are also sections with information about Galway City:
- practical information about transport in Galway;
- suggestions of things to do and see in Galway and on the Wild Atlantic Way, including bus tours and routes, restaurant recommendations, etc.;
- and a school notice-board that students may submit posts to.
For students who have come to live in Ireland for a longer course of study (e.g. Study Abroad Year) there is also information about living in Ireland:
- safety information and health and wellness resources;
- advice for finding a job, working in Ireland, and opening an Irish bank account;
- immigration information and notices for students seeking to renew their visas;
- resources for seeking private accommodation in Galway.
On the course page at your level, you will find:
- resources shared with you by your teachers to support your coursebook,
- information about student support meetings,
- progress quizzes and a student reflection checklist to support your General English classes,
- grammar and vocabulary advice and additional practice resources,
- reading and listening advice and additional practice resources,
- a section with some interesting cultural and historical information about Ireland!
Student Portal
As a student at Galway Business and English Language School, you will also have access to our Student Portal where you can find further information about Galway, Ireland and other useful details with regards to social activity programme or events.
You will be able to view and update your personal details plus essential booking and documents related to your course.
On the Student Portal you may also:
