What is English Teacher Training?

Our Erasmus+ teacher training courses help you do exactly that. You’ll discover and practise new teaching methodologies, whether for primary or secondary level, gain an understanding of how to combine language and subject teaching within a practical lesson framework, and explore a wide variety of practical tasks and activities that can be put to immediate use in the classroom.

 You’ll have a truly memorable time on our teacher training course in Galway on Ireland’s west coast. When you get here, you’ll discover the beauty of this vibrant harbour city and have the chance to really get to know Ireland as a local. 

 The school is just 50 metres from the beach, where you can get involved with lots of different water sports or just relax on the sand and watch the sea in between lessons. 

 And there’s little better on days off than a cliff walk followed by some streetfood or a visit to a traditional pub in Galway.

What teacher training courses can you take?

At Galway Cultural Institute you have the choice of four different teacher training courses.

Teacher Training: CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) – for anyone whose first language isn’t English and who teaches, or plans to teach, in English, and wishes to become confident delivering a broad range of CLIL-based activities both inside and outside the classroom.

English Language & Irish Culture – the programme blends language development with cultural exploration, covering Irish literature, folklore, music, and history. Participants engage in interactive workshops and social activities, gaining insights into both traditional and contemporary Irish culture. The course also introduces innovative teaching methodologies, helping educators refresh their classroom practices.

Supporting Multilingual Learners in Diverse Classrooms – this Erasmus+ course equips educators with practical strategies to support multilingual learners in increasingly diverse classrooms. Teachers learn to design inclusive lessons, manage linguistic diversity, and foster cultural awareness. The programme emphasizes critical thinking, language development, and student engagement, helping educators create welcoming learning environments.

EdTech: Smart Solutions for Smarter Teaching – this forward-thinking Erasmus+ course focuses on integrating educational technology and AI into everyday teaching. Participants explore digital tools for lesson planning, assessment, and personalized learning, The course promotes productivity, innovation, and adaptability, helping teachers develop SMART strategies to manage workloads and enhance classroom engagement.

English for Higher Education Professionals - tailored for staff in universities and colleges, this Erasmus+ course enhances English proficiency for academic and professional contexts. Participants develop skills in academic writing, presentation, and professional communication, with a focus on fluency, clarity, and intercultural competence. Ideal for lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff.

What is Erasmus+ English teacher training?

Erasmus+ teacher training courses are educational programmes promoted and supported by the EU. They provide teachers with a chance to expand their language skills, pick up new ideas and practices, and build relationships with peers.

Erasmus+ funding

ERASMUS, the European Union's flagship mobility programme in the field of education and training, was established in 1987, and Galway Cultural Institute has been an active participant in welcoming students to our school on Erasmus funded programmes. 

ERASMUS stands for "EuRopean Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students" and it was named after the philosopher, theologian and humanist Erasmus (1465-1536), who lived and worked in several countries in Europe, in quest of the knowledge, experience and insights which only such contact with other countries could bring. Originally part of the SOCRATES programme, Erasmus has, since 2007, been a subprogramme of the EU's Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP).
